Character Information Notes Empty
PostSubject: Character Information Notes   Character Information Notes EmptySat May 17, 2014 9:04 pm

*points to description*
It's kinda difficult to work on the app while looking at these notes in my word processor. Which is why I am posting it on here! Makes it easier for Tea~

Hopefully everything is spelled correctly. I seriously keep having to re-spell check this for some reason cause the words won't stay being correct!

And Zenke (cause I added some things in here)

Note: These notes are almost all in incomplete sentences. Plus there may be some spelling errors.

==============

Human Info

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t61-human-info

*Humans evolved to point many are beginning to get powers.
-Most, maybe all able see spirit even if can't do anything about them.

* Human Powers and Fullbring are as unique as shinigami's Zankpaktou shape being changed. *Possibly fewer limits since way human's powers manifest could be through anything. (Unlike Shinigami, just have swords)

Second Powers vs Fullbring

*Fullbring doesn't really make you stronger.
-No extra boosts
-can't use normal powers while wielding Fullbring and it's abilities
* Fullbring gives object like Bount's doll. Gives person powers instead doll holding powers.
-There for RP purpose makes no difference on humans total power potential.
- With/without can be 2-2 tier, fight on par with 2-2s at full power.
-Strength/weakness apply still.

Second Stage Powers
*For humans enhances already existing power
-Get boosts unlike Fullbring.
-(Possibly better Fullbring than it due to certain cases. Such as giving advantage against opponent's that your power is highly effective against. Because power is more enhanced than before.)
*Increases all natural primary stage powers
-giving new heights, limits
*Unlike Fullbring, no new power set that doesn't match primary powers & Second Stage ones

Hyper Mode:
*3rd and final power stage for Humans. Highest maximum output of human's powers
-closest to god-like that human's can get
-lasts short time
*While Soul able to take power. Body not meant to handle.
-Fatigues once reaching ability's limit
*Equal to Full Hollow Form, Quincy Final Form, Shinigami Ultimate Release, Vasto lorde

Blur:
*Human equal of Shinigami Shunpo.
-Technique master to keep up with Spiritual beings.

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t61-human-info

Character Personality

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t28-character-personality

*Very Important

*Creating personality traits. Select trait pairings.
-When choose describe how they are that
-What degree are they that?

*Rp Character not yourself. (See why in Character Development)
Example: You're courageous and extroverted. Character is pessimistic, insecure, coward, naive.
-You live life impressing others, looking for missions to finish, defeat enemies, train. Character most likely won't live life like that.

Personality Traits

*Optimistic or Pessimistic
-Character views world/events around them
-Seeing gals half-empty, half-full, soon-completely-empty
-Further detail is nice

*Idealistic or Rational
-Character follow heart/ ideals. Or follow facts

*Imaginative/Logical
-Imaginative: Artistic, aesthetic, creative thinker
-Logical: POV cause/effect, Black/white, true/false, this/that, etc.

*Playful/Serious
-Playful: Laid back, enjoy selves/others
-Serious: prefer focusing on goals often.

*Extrovert/Introvert
-Extrovert: Feel energized being in another's company. Prefer be with other people
-Introvert: POV interacting people not really pleasurable. Tend be quiet, withdrawn. Prefer find quiet place to rest, regroup, decompress

*Courageous/Cowardly
-Courageous: Despite fear, stand up for own goals and ideals. Can have quality staring death in eye than not flinch. Tend be confident, commonly considered heroic or stupid.
-Cowardly: Tend to be concerned with caring for self no matter what. May avoid trials or be non-confrontational, submissive.

*Confident/Insecure
-Confident: Self-assured. Tend be in touch with self, knowing own strength and weakness. Some overly confident
-Insecure: Negative self belief to complete tasks/reach goals, Negative image of self, feeling too weak, ugly. Tend be submissive, non-confrontational.

*Clever/Naive
-Clever: Able see through plans, deception. Can make good plans, deceptions
-Naive: Able to be easily tricked/deceived.
-Not related to intelligence level. Determines how well others can pull one over (Naive) or how well character pull one over others (Clever)

*Caring/Cold
-Caring: Follow what emotions tell them. Often empathetic, like taking care of others. Guided more by feelings
-Cold: Able feel emotions, not powerfully impactful. Driven more by another stronger factor

Organized/Messy
-Organized: Prefer neat, organized, maintaining controlled environment. Tend to plan things.
-Messy: Often messy. Prefer scattered, disarray environment. Some might have complete control despite mess. Others flustered, embarrassed.

Other things to consider for Personality:
*Referring to background story
-Any events influencing character becoming who they are in the present?
-Character holding on still to memories/event in past?
-Worry about the future?

*Check to see personality traits make sense with each other in nature and degree
-Events can help describing the degrees.

*Don't need to write many huge paragraphs about different scenarios where character may behave differently.
-Traits able explaining whether not it's possible.

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t28-character-personality

General Fighting Style & Likes and Fears

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t1029-general-fighting-style-and-likes-fears

*Few characters fear nothing
*Everyone likes/fear something
*Psychological attacks like illusions and fear abilities. Will have mixed results due to everyone not being the same.
-Ex. Probably keep fighting if love fighting and ability has someone see opponent as someone dear to them
-Ex 2. Ability able release huge "killer's intent'
-Some may not be affected. Others will due to cowardliness, inexperience, etc.

*Even strong characters have fears and depressing has likes.

General Fighting

*General Fighting style, how generally fight, strengths, weaknesses

*Questions to answer:
-Character's strengths?
-Range? (close, far,)
-Use intelligence to fight or wings it (berserker)?
-Make sure fighting style and strengths/weaknesses don't contradict.

Strengths and Weaknesses
*Common ones:
-weapon user, hand to hand combat
-Strength, speed, durability, stamina
-Spiritual pressure/energy amount
-Resistance, weaknesses to certain attack types
*For weakenesses explain why they are a weakness
*Having many averages frowned upon.
*It's all about balance
example:
-strong, fast durable with low stamina not balanced
-Strong, fast, durable fighter that takes double damager from energy attacks (including fire and lighting) is balanced.

Weaknesses:
*Phobias can be considered weakness, if it's a common occurrence. (Men/women, heights)
-Fear of being bound, claustrophobia not enough common occurrence to be considered a weakness.
*Intelligence not really an actual weakness/strength. Belongs more to fighting style.
* Taking double damage from most elements and energy is a VERY big weakness.
*Weaknesses can always be tipped against a character if you want to to make RP more interesting. (Not many do this though)

Character Flaws
*Can be weakness, but most are not weaknesses.
-ex. Not holding back, including sparring match. Isn't a weakness.
-Fighting on instinct. Not really a weakness.
*Staff judges if a flaw is a weakness or not

*Everything is related to tier.
ex. 1-5 horrid speed able to out run 3-1 speed specialist
-1-5 average speed out run 1-5 horrid speed

Strengths and Weaknesses
*The "weight" of strength weakness varies. Such as being race specific, type of fighter they are.
*State the degrees of a strength/weakness. (Highly weak in...)
-Must be related to current tier.
- Don't compare to canons.

Types of Strengths and Weaknesses (Plus character types)

Physical Fighters:
-Physical strength weighs more for them. And it's best to not have it be a weakness or average.
-Spiritual pressure/energy amount weighs little. At highest able to give non arrancar/hollow kenpachi like skin or weak type heirro

Range Fighters:
-More likely have troubles being away from opponent. Hopefully, opponent has horrible speed.

Tanks:
-Durability is an important Trait

Speed characters:
-Durability is usually low (average or below) unless another weakness is greater than durability.
-Able to dodge easily, tend to dodge blows than take them. Also able to dodge easily.

Physical Strength:
*A minor factor in battle towards winning.
*Able to be overpowered in close combat if strength is weaker than opponents or matches them.

Durability:
*A Moderate factor in battle towards winning
*Amount of damage able to take before collapsing?

weapon skills (including swordsmanship)/ hand to hand skill:
*A minor factor in battle towards winning.
-Due to being more on the RP side.
-Also relies more on physical ability

Stamina:
*A large factor in battle towards winning
*Amount of time can fight before fatiguing?
-Doesn't mean opponent wins automatically
-If poor reach it sooner
-Usually put on average for characters

Speed:
*May be a minor or large factor in battle.
*Includes reaction time, general movement speed, shunpo, blur, sonido, etc.
-Reaction time is reflexes

Spirtual Pressure/Energy amount:
*Varied on weight
*Non arrancar/hollow character's can have Kenpachi like skin or a weak heirro
*Great for characters that rely on kido, cero and abilities.
*Non releasers similar to Kenpachi. It's needed to match up with releases. (Cases be highly regulated)

Energy/Elemental weaknesses/resistance:
*Amount of weakness and resistance.
-Must make sense with own element, opposing element, explain in background
*Large immunity only for own elements
-No being fully immune to poisons
-May have resistance to other elements only if it makes sense.
*Non energy characters that's resistant towards energy can only be towards racial subjects.
-ex. Kido and cero, bala and energy manipulation outside of res, doll, Zankpaktou abilities
*Virtually no elemental subjects related to race
-don't abuse possibility. This is last resort of weakness.

Subjects related to Race:

Kido/Cero:
*Shinigami/Vizard having this as a weakness is big. Especially bakudos.
-Never have this is as your lone weakness.
*Cero/bala as weakness is not bad.

Hierro:
*Works well with durability
*Having moderate weight within battle
*Lessens damage
*For Arrancar's in base form, if their Hierro is strong, it can block a Zankpaktou in sealed form.
-Shikai is able to cut it. Exceptions are major tier differences
-Is okay for Hollow and Res forms to have ability to block shikai/bankai equivalent. Also some parts can be as strong as a Zanpakto's shikai or depending on the level, above equivalent.
-Parts such as hands, arms, legs, tails, wings and possibly teeth are good. Also applies for Sinners even though they don't have a hierro.

High Speed Regeneration: (Arrancar, Hollow only)
*Fairly high factor in battle
*Good to be specific on how well this is.
*Usually average on most
*Healing abilities are observed carefully by others.

Sensing/Pesquisa:
*Sensing ability to sense large amount of spiritual energy. Pesquisa is an Arrancar's form of this.
-Works similarly to Sonar and Bounts can't be sensed.
*Sensing is a passive, thus always active. Possibly able to turn it off with practice.
-Special abilities based upon it is not.
*Pesquisa is only for Arrancars.
*Has no effect on others
*For non Bounts, can not tell if someone can sense you.
-Can't suppress power until it's undetectable.
-Possibility of someone not being able to sense. Can only tell if they have ability if they state so IC.

Enhanced Sense:
*Only have if you stated and have a good reason for them
-Can be double-edged swords.
-ex. Able to hear a person's heartbeat, track a person by their smell.

Character Background

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t27-character-background

*Can give everything about character
-Can explain why character's personality is a certain way
-Why their appearance is the way it is
-Why their abilities is the way it is

*For Scars, what are the origins?
-Who gave them to the character? (Self inflicted)
-Where it was given?
-What event caused the wounds that later became scars?
-Effects the scar(s) have on character?
-Character self conscious?
-Character tries to hide them or shows it openly?

*For attacks
-Who taught your character it?
-What was done to learn it?
-Is it used often or not?
-Did the power grow over time or has it decreased or been the same?
-Has the character figured out many ways to use it?
-Favourite usage of it?

*Background should be written as if it's your own autobiography.
*Background helps tie up loose ends.

Writing guidelines for Background:
1. Always write in 3rd person (he, she, it), past tense and complete sentences.

2. Think about the stage of life:

A human has at least three: (1) Childhood, (2) Adulthood, (3) Discovery/honing of powers.

A Shinigami should always have 5 Stages: (1)Human Life, (2) Death, (3) Time in Soul Society before the Academy, (4) Academy Student, (5) Shinigami Career

A Vizardshould always have 7 Stages: (1) Human Life, (2) Death, (3) Time in Soul Society before the Academy, (4) Academy Student, (5) Shinigami Career, (6) Hollowfication, (7) Life as a Vizard

An Arrancar should always have 5 Life Stages: (1) Human Life, (2) Death, Arrival in Hueco Mundo, (3) Life as a Gillian, (4) Life as an Adjuchas, (5) Life as an Vasto Lorde.

3) Each Life stage should discuss at least one encounter/event with a person/place/thing/obstacle that influenced them and what resulted or what they learned from that circumstance.

Quote:
Little Johnny witnessed Mommy getting beaten up by drunk Daddy and a couple thugs. He ran at them, but was knocked away by his Father, causing his head to strike the wall with a sickening thud. All he could do was listen to hands and feet striking Mommy while her muffled cries broke the silence. Everything faded to black...

-Effects it would have on him?
-When he becomes an Advent Human will he be protective of human? Will he have learned that he's helpless?
-Will he be skeptical of father figures and jump to the worst-case-scenarios when it comes to them?
-How hard will he be on random thugs he may encounter? How will he react to thugs ganging up on a woman?

OR
-Did Johnny save his mother by awakening his advent abilities?
-Is it a circumstantial thing, his powers only appear when he sees women being assaulted? Or is he able to access it and can use his abilities?
-Will he be afraid of his power and vow not to use it again? Or Will he feel empowered and become power-hungry?
-Was his mother frightened or thankful? What effed did her reaction have on him?

4) Always ask questions about your character that you should always answer.
So character's can be more completed and less like a concept.
*Being familiar with your character is important and it takes more than a little time to get to that point.

Example of not being very familiar with your character:

Quote:
Little Johnny was raised in a broken home. Daddy was a drunk and Mommy was abused. One day, Daddy struck Johnny and he passed out. Later, he vowed he'd never let Mommy get hurt again.
Ten years later, Johnny died and arrived in Soul Society...

*It lacks detail. Children tend to make promises like that.
-It doesn't show much about his emotions.
-It doesn't show specifically anything that caused him to make a vow.
-It doesn't show if he's had an opportunity to keep the vow. Or if he broke it out of fear, anger or frustration.
-One can conclude that the beating happened once, but what happened after that?
-Did his father go to AA?
-Did his mother run away? Did she take Johnny with her or left him behind?
-Did the mother stay home, cover her wounds and pretend that it didn't happen?

*Being able to ask questions about your character is very important.
-Able to ask questions means you can make a 10 paragraph background. (Even making it in about 30 minutes)

*Rules/Post limits may overrules parts of your background.
Example:
*While you're technically a Vizard, within your applications you only know your inner hollow.
-There's no rules saying that you're not a Vizard nor you know your inner hollow until post 110. (This post count varies by the one making the character.)

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t27-character-background

Character apparel

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t25-character-apparel

*Paragraphs of a character's appearance should be:
1.Physical characteristics [Face (shape, size, etc); hair traits (style, length, color, texture, etc); body traits (type, color, marks); etc)]
2. Clothing [Top (shirts) and bottoms (pants, skirt)/One pieces (Dress, overalls, jumpsuits) and shoes (heels, boots, sneakers etc.)]
Paragraph 3 and above. Accessories (Weapons, jewelry, familiar/kindred spirits, special adornments, etc.)

*Instead of just using an image. Imagine the character in their mind and write what they see. Keeping poetic words low.
-Let's others know one is able to use imagination and express it to the point they can make their character easily recognized.

*Having a full body picture of a character is a good reference for one to write out what they see.

*Questions to be answered when it comes to the character's appearance. So one doesn't describe a character's appearance in a few sentences.
-Appearances need to be in depth.

example:
Kentakyuhanamitsurugi wears a tee-shirt and jeans with tennis shoes. He wears sunglasses carries a knife and a cane, and is usually accompanied by a dog.

Questions like:
What color is the tee shirt?
Does the tee-shirt have any designs on it?
Are his sunglasses black, red, blue, green, etc.?
What color are his shoes?
Does he have a weapon?
Is the weapon smooth and sharp, or is it serrated and savage?
What color is the blade?
Does it have a sheath?
Where does he keep the knife?
What is the cane made out of?
What color is the cane?
What kind of dog does he have?
How big is the dog?
Does the dog have a name?
Is it wearing a collar or any other kind of apparel?
-There's many more possible ways to describe a character-

*The minimum/average of an appearance is shown below. Going above it will allow a person to get a higher status. If the appearance part of an app is small, other sections need to make-up for it.
-One should also have depth for Zanpakuto apparel, Zanpakuto Spirit Apparel, Shikai Apparel, and Bankai Apparel.

Example:
Kentakyuhanamitsurugi has fair, perfect skin. He has dark brown, epicanthic eyes that slant slightly upward within the frame of a narrow face and chin. He has a lanky type of build, as his arms and legs are slim and seem a little long in proportion to his torso.

He can be seen wearing a white tee-shirt with black and blue skull designs on the sleeves and shoulders. his shirt is one size too large, so it seems to sag a bit from his shoulders. He also wears plain blue jeans that are tattered at the ankles and white tennis shoes with black laces.

He wears sunglasses with blue lenses and he carries a knife with a folding blade. The handle is made of stainless steel and swirling designs are etched into the material. The blade is serrated on the bottom half toward the handle and smooth on the top half. His ceramic cane is an off-white hue and he holds it comfortably in his hands.

A large dog can usually be seen where he goes. It has grey fur on its back and white on its underside and legs. Its eyes are mismatched in color, one being green and the other blue. It is powerfully built, blindly obedient to Kentakyuhanamitsurugi's commands and its name is Buttons.

Character Development

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t26-character-development

*Keeping a character reasonably realistic.Treat character's as if their real with actual flaws. Have them be themselves and not change in a millisecond.

*Being reasonably realistic by having character's be flawed. It's more interesting and fun to have them make mistakes and NOT be perfect. Everyone wants to perfect, but a really good character is one that is imperfect in more than a few ways. A boring character is one that is perfect.
-Example:
Never write a detailed post about how your character easily attacks, easily (and beautifully) dodges an opponents attacks and making a long chain of combos easily with perfect accuracy.

*For character development one needs mental, physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological growth.
Examples:
*Character seeing in gruesome detail groups of people getting chopped, mutilated and dismembered. Don't just have them look sad, sigh and walk from the scene.
-Many different reactions to one scenario. Not everyone reacts the same.
-Explain what the character is feeling, if it's their loved ones how will they react afterwards, why are they feeling this way?

*It's not good when big events happen that could reveal parts of a character's persona (other than the ones just shown. Different, yet to be seen parts until a huge event happens) is brushed off and not taken an opportunity of to grow the character in at least one aspect like emotionally or psychologically.

*Not having depth makes your character One-dimensional.
example:
Even depressed people laugh. And those that laugh cry.
-At times being Out of Character can be very in Character.
-Have them have a variety of reactions to different scenarios.
-Is your character cowardly yet inspires to fight back against a "higher" power?
Are they weak, have low self esteem and try to become stronger? It's okay in a certain scenario to have a cowardly character fight back or weak character attempting to be stronger.

Unique characters:
*It's not that easy to think up of one.
examples: Demonic people and People with wealthy backgrounds that are very kind, considerate, etc. isn't very original.
-Don't have a bad guy or gentleman that likes roses kind of character without a twist to it.
Example:
-If you have an insane character..
-Why are they insane?
Do they have a mental health condition? (dementia, schizophrenia?)
Are they a sociopath?
What triggers their insane attitude?
-And many other questions allows one to give more depth to a character.

Try NOT to do:

Role-playing yourself
*This is what happens every day in actual life.
-The point of RP is to do things one hasn't done before. Travel into territories that you've yet to explore such as choices and ideas.
-It can be much more interesting to do then just being yourself. It allows one to have a whole new perspective of a world that may or may not be related to the one you live in now.

Powers
*Within the Bleach universe, they are a reflection of one's soul.
-Have the powers be an extension of the character.
-If not, such as Quincy abilities (which is handed down the family) have it be original and state it in a large sized paragraph.
examples:
-Orihime's powers are fairies and fantasy-type character that's able to reverse reality. Mentally, she's cute and childish.
-Chad desires to use his physical strength to protect others. So, he posses armor.

*Though powers should make sense. NEVER value them over personality.
-The list of one's abilities and spells SHOULDN'T be longer than one's background, personality and apparel combined. If it is, there's too much focus on the powers.
-One shouldn't also only be able to write an in-depth (long, detailed) post when talking about a single attack.
-Reasons why powers shouldn't be valued over personality is in case one's powers becomes helpless.
-The point of RPing watching one's character mature as a person. It's not about having the strongest character and kicking a lot of butt. (It is a nice plus at times)

Chinese Fortune Cookie: Powers can be taken away, but Individuality can only flourish.

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t26-character-development

Readability

https://bleacherax.rpg-board.net/t23-readability

*Efficiently using space within a story to deliver a whole story with an effect and purpose while maintaining the attention of a reader.

*Four factors affect this:
-Content
-Style
-Design
-Structure

*This is all largely affected by one's own writing style.

*Something that can affect this is the number of syllables in a word and the total amount of syllables in a sentence. Along with the number of sentence in a paragraph and the reader's knowledge of words plus thinking about the attention span of the target audience.

*Readability of application and post is very important.
-Short background and RP sample and a tedious, long ones with unnecessary detail will not give a character a lot of power or respect.
-It's displeasing to the eye for those that know good writing to see 7 paragraphs containing 20 sentences long each. (Even those loving to read may quit seeing this)

*When staff members grade an application. They are mainly looking for readability.
-Keeping a reader's attention is important or no one will want to post with your character nor deal with you.
-Having long background sections is okay just as long as they flow logically and are heading to a goal. Keeping things dynamic also helps by putting in plot twists, obstacles, plot elements, humor, etc.
*DON'T describe each character's trait using many paragraphs that are 10-15 sentences long. (10 sentences and many paragraphs for the face, many paragraphs 12 sentences each for clothes and pants, 15 sentences for each many paragraphs for how they look when their pregnant and how their abdomen feels when it's touched)

*Too much detail literally drowns the reader within a sea of details that are not important. It also makes a reader lost and usually when that happens, the reader skips and ends up not seeing the important parts.
*At the same time too little depth isn't good either. It's worse than too much.

*Rankings are based on length and readability. Things won't get a good score if they're bad.

*Readability and detail is needed for a good tier. What's looked at always and the most: Personality, appearance, fighting style and history.
-More detail in those the better

NOTE: You can star weaker if you want too! Just state it in the notes section.
