Seireitei Seireitei is a circular shiro with four main entrances, ten days walk apart, each guarded by a Gate Guardian. These gates are called the Black Ridge Gate (黒隆門, Kokuryōmon) (in the North), the Blue Stream Gate (青流門, Shōryūmon) (in the East), the Red Hollow Gate (朱洼門, Shuwaimon) (in the South) and the White Way Gate (白道門, Hakutōmon) (in the West). The gates are so heavy that it takes the full might of Jidanbō Ikkanzaka to lift one, while during the Bount-led attack on Seireitei, siege machines were needed to open the gates. There are, however, doors within the gates, as seen when Momo Hinamori first entered the Shinō Academy. The walls of Seireitei are made of Sekkiseki (殺気石, spirit reducing stone), a rare type of stone known to negate all Reiryoku, similar to magnetic lodestones. The stone also forms a spherical barrier around the city, extending above and below, stopping anything spiritual from breaching it from ground level, from the sky or from underground. Information about the Seireitei is confidential. What is known is that in the center of the Seireitei is a white tower known as the Senzaikyū, where criminals are imprisoned (similar to death row); on the hill adjacent to it is the Sōkyoku, where prisoners are executed. Those permitted to live in the tranquility of the Seireitei are Shinigami and the few families of the nobility. Shinigami live in the Division barracks, while high-ranking officers commute from their own homes. The majority of the residents of Seireitei, nobility and Shinigami alike, do not interact with the citizens of Rukongai. However, residents of Rukongai, like Renji and Rukia, are allowed to apply for the Shinō Academy, which is often the only escape from the poorest conditions of Rukongai. Shinigami Academy The academy was founded some 2,100 years ago.[1] It is not under the direct control of Central 46. The Academy was once called the Shinigami Academy. It was then changed to the Spiritual Arts Academy when it developed into an institute for the next generation of the Kidō Corps and the Onmitsukidō as well as the Shinigami of the Gotei 13. Although, it is still referred to as Shinigami Academy in Rukongai. The Academy is a sprawling, multiple story building with architecture typical of Seireitei. It has an open courtyard, many class rooms, dormitories and practice areas for Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hohō, and Kidō. According to Aizen, the commandment all Shinigami are taught at the Academy is "Do not seek beauty in battle. Do not seek virtue in death. Do not make the mistake of considering only your own life. The Maggot's Nest it is located on the grounds of the Second Division, and is surrounded by a moat. On the inside, it resembles a cave with an area for prisoners. When a Shinigami becomes a potential danger to other Shinigami and Soul Society, that Shinigami is brought to the Nest of Maggots for imprisonment, regardless if they were put on trial; this is to ensure no danger will be brought to Soul Society. All prisoners are not held inside a cell (since they cannot set foot outside the prison). The exception is the Nest of Maggots' infamous former resident: Mayuri Kurotsuchi, considered at the time an exceptionally dangerous person. Treatment for the prisoners is mostly lenient; they can walk freely and converse with one another, but the bleak setting drives many to madness. Neither the staff (called jailers) of the Detention Unit nor any other visitors are permitted to carry a Zanpakutō into the Nest of Maggots; visitors must deposit them at the entrance. This measure means that the jailers are required to be able to control the prisoners with bare hands. If a Shinigami desires to enter and is not adept at hand-to-hand combat, they may not enter. Rukongai Rukongai is divided into 320 districts (80 in North Rukongai, 80 in West Rukongai, etc.), each numbered in descending order on how far they are from the center; this results in the higher-numbered (and farther) districts decaying into slums. Thus, while District 1 is peaceful and lawful, much like the antiseptic lifestyle of early-Edo Era Kyoto, District 80 is a hardscrabble, violent, crime-infested area that more depicts Heian era Kyoto. The duties of the Gotei 13 Divisions include defending allocated districts of Rukongai. However, which division is responsible for which district has not been stated. Las Noches Las Noches is a massive fortress which can be seen for miles. It consists of a main building with a domed center surrounded by several large towers and smaller buildings. Atop the dome are five smaller towers, which appear to contain areas such as Aizen's throne room and the Espada meeting hall. In the room where Orihime Inoue is kept, there is one large Middle-Eastern rug on the ground that is facing outside, much like those in rooms used for Islamic prayer. White Desert Is a seemingly never-ending white desert, with dunes like those of the Sahara. The desert is littered with what appear to be boulders and shriveled trees, but these are actually a form of quartz. In Hueco Mundo, the moon is on the opposite lunar phase of that in the Human World. The vast desert also seems to lack any bodies of water. Like in Soul Society, the atmosphere is filled with Reiryoku in the form of Reishi, but it is more concentrated, thus allowing smaller Hollows to gain nourishment despite the lack of Human souls. Menos Forest Gillian- and Adjuchas-class Menos dwell here, along with possibly Vasto Lorde-class Menos. The forest is filled with large trees made of a silvery quartz substance. These trees extend to the surface and dot the landscape of the desert in Hueco Mundo. Aizen and the Arrancar have a considerable amount of influence here, judging by a large group of Hollows bowing down upon seeing an Arrancar. The Adjuchas in charge of the Forest of Menos are under the command of the Hollow King. Ashido Kanō, a Shinigami, also resides in this area after being stranded during an assault on some Hollows which had invaded the Soul Society. Karakura Town Karakura Town is the home town of Ichigo Kurosaki. It seems to be a small city with an average population that resembles the real world. Humans that live in Karakura Town are currently aware of the ghosts and spiritual forces that live there but not all of them have developed powers to deal with them. Sōsuke Aizen once sought to destroy Karakura Town to make a copy of the Ōken or King's Key. Karakura Town is referred to as District 3600 by the Shinigami and is situated on the current jūreichi (重霊地, Important Spirit Ground) - the point in the Human World that possesses the greatest concentration of spiritual beings. Nibelheim A large city that started with Heaven's Arena at it's center and spread out in every direction rapidly as the arena grew in popularity. First Level The First Level of Hell features a multitude of white blocks floating in mid-air amongst a series of blue pathways. It is on this level that many of the dejected Sinners reside, having given up on resistance. Renji Abarai commented that the First Level of Hell has reiatsu so strangled that people with normal reiatsu would go insane. This level is where the majority of Kushanāda patrol frequently, in order to prey upon the weaker Sinners. Second Level The Second Level of Hell is mostly composed of a large body of water. Within this large expanse of water, are a multitude of stone water lilies, in the center of which lies a pierced skeleton of a Kushanāda. It is on this level that Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends initially battle with the Sinners in Hell. The body of water can also be navigated through, and ultimately leads to the third level. Third Level The Third Level of Hell is a rocky, barren landscape with various craters in which yellow lava forms. It is here that Szayel Aporro Granz and Aaroniero Arruruerie battled with Shuren and his comrades. Ichigo and Kokutō navigated through this area to reach Shuren's base at the lowermost level of Hell. Renji Abarai and Garogai conclude their battle on this level. After the rocky landscape is cleared, there is a narrow passageway lit with the dim lighting from various shrines. Fourth Level The Fourth Level of Hell starts off with a hilly area in which there are a multitude of small domes jutting out of the ground. From the opening in the face of a cliff, a thundering waterfall with the yellow lava rains down around it. The sand on this part of the level is comprised of the crushed bones of millions of Sinners who turned to ash due to the hopelessness of their predicament. This section then crosses over into a giant skeleton resembling the ones which make up the Gates of Hell. This overlooks a pit of lava, which has the ability to resurrect killed Sinners. Lowest Pits The Lowermost Level of Hell is composed of a black landscape, with many irregular columns covered in veins of lava jutting out from the ground. The Kushanāda are capable of materializing from within these lava columns. This level was where Kokutō was imprisoned in Hell, and also where he subsequently awoke after witnessing Ichigo's Hollowfication. Lightning strikes are a frequent occurrence here. There are also withered trees littered across the landscape, from which Kokutō hungs the bodies of Renji Abarai and Uryū Ishida for Ichigo to see during their time in hell.
